Review of Drake's Take Care

By Juan Valdez

One of Hip-Hops youngest and hottest artists in today’s era would have to be 29 year old Canadian rap star Aubrey Graham, who's most famously known as Drake. Although his life story isn't one that stands out compared to other rap artists, his road to fame and glory didn't come easy to him. His stand out single "Best I Ever Had" that he released in 2009 was most definitely his claim to fame. The single won the awards of both 2010's best Hip-Hop/Rap song and ranked #6 on The U.S Billboard 200 Chart for five consecutive weeks, but that was only the start. Drake had much more to show the world and he has proved that thus far. The album I'll be reviewing is Drakes 2011 Grammy winning album of the year, Take Care.

Although the music industry is constantly changing due to the variety of genres and styles displayed by many artists, people of all ages have come to love and appreciate Drakes music due to his unique swagger and talent to take beats of all ages and kinds and blending his own style into them to give the song a more up to date rhythm and flow that respectfully compliments the previous artists ways of singing or rapping through the song. For example, in the album Take Care the song titled "Practice" was not made off of a new beat and many of the lyrics were from an older song by rapper Juvenile, but Drake took the song and mixed it into a more modern day style and in doing so he earned the respect from the original artist of the song who stated, "I never pictured it to be in the genre of R&B but he [Drake] did a great job with it."

The reason to why this album is one of my all-time favorites is because of the different styles in it, nowadays albums are usually stuck to one style but this one has songs of all kinds which is why I recommend this album to people who loves and appreciate music. Drake has managed to change his style up song to song so well which is why he continues to captivate an audience and allow his fan base to grow. The great thing about Drake’s music is the way he incorporates his relatable lyrics to his catchy beats and sounds. The album has songs like "Crew Love" that has a techno type beat play throughout the song while Drake raps over it as The Weeknd sings, then there's songs like "Shot For Me" that has an R&B feel to it as he discusses his relationship with a girl he used to date and all the emotions that tag along with it. The great thing about a song like “Shot For Me” is that it’s very relatable. Drake has been the voice for many people since he incorporates such authentic emotions. Most artists display the same style over the same beat song after song. Drake has been a new and much needed twist to the typical “Rap” artist. He is also commonly known for his radio song "Headlines" which can, arguably, be the most popular track to come out of the album, this song displays the original Drake, it has the catchy beat along with the "head bobbing" lyrics.

In order for an artist not to get old and boring they must continuously change up the feel of their music to attract different audiences. This album has seventeen songs with an additional two songs as part of a bonus feature. Three songs including "Headlines", "Marvin's Room", and "Crew Love" dropped as singles prior to the album.  There are ten credited song writers on the track including Drake himself. He also help produce beats for twelve out of the nineteen songs in total on the album. Overall, out of five stars, I would give it a perfect score of five starts. Due to his creativity on the albums lyrics and sounds, he created an albums hat could accommodate the likes of many music lovers. He shows his easy going, relatable character in all his songs. The presentation of the album cover is great as well. This album is really great and I definitely recommend that people that enjoy any  music type check it out.
